Quickfire Tip 52: Remove Distractions with Email Snoozing

The twin worries of the middle-aged professional are too many inches around the waist and too many emails in the inbox

There are other Quickfire Tips for the first of these but, for the second, one idea to consider is using Snooze on your email. This is available in Gmail and some versions of Outlook. Other email tools likely offer it too.

Snoozing doesn’t actually reduce the number of emails, but it removes them from view and thus reduces both the specific distraction and the general sense of out-of-controlness.

By snoozing the email until a suitable time you can essentially remove it from your mind. You may be batching related emails to handle all in one go, or it may be something that needs to wait until someone is back from a trip. Whatever the reason, Snoozing is odd to start with but within a week or two you won’t understand how you lived without it.

And don’t worry, the emails are still there and easy to find if you need them sooner.
