Thanks for nothing, Medium
Banning my 18-year-old daughter’s account because I “liked” her post…
Medium wrote to me many times, strongly suggested a gift of Medium membership for Christmas.
I did that. Paying for an account for my daughter 18 year old.
She then took tentative steps into the word of Medium writing. I naturally read what she wrote. And clapped. And commented. In part to give her encouragement. In part because I thought the algorithm might take those claps as encouragement to share further. As a result of my being a member this also seemed to give her a few cents of revenue.
She was delighted and wrote some more. I clapped that too

Until “boom” a suspended account. And zero response when appealing…
I’m aware Medium is having to crack on AI challenges. And I know that is not easy. But I’m unclear why a new joiner with three posts and 18 cents of income is being flagged as a problem.
Shame on you Medium!
The only upside is that having initially felt quite upset about the aggressive messaging she receive from Medium she has now re-energised and is publishing regularly on Vocal and Substack.
I’ll leaving her paid membership open for a month or two in vain hope of a decent response around the appeal. But then I’ll stop paying for her. Any maybe also my account too. OWN GOAL!!!
